Carlos & Charlies!

July 25, 2010

If you live in Austin you've probably heard the radio commercials for Carlos & Charlies out on Lake Travis. Every time it comes on, I shout in my best accent along with the commercial, Carlos & Charlies!!! I can't help it. It's almost a reflex. Darn them (the commercial creators) for doing that to me! Will they live up to the commercial?

Finally, after weeks and weeks of hearing the commercial (which reminds me, I really miss satellite radio more than ever now), we went to Carlos & Charlie's for dinner with Brooke & Isabella.

Shrimp Trio Platter

Dan and I shared the Shrimp Trio Platter: Fried Jumbo Gulf shrimp, coconut shrimp, and grilled lemon butter shrimp served with french fries, coleslaw, chipotle cocktail, sweet plumb and tarter sauces. The shrimp was great but I didn't like the "plumb" sauce.

Carlos' n' Charlies - Fajita Tacos

Brooke had Fajita Tacos: Two mesquite grilled beef or chicken tacos served with rice and beans

Carlos' n' Charlie's - Grande Burrito

Gaetano had El Grande Burrito: Huge flour tortilla stuffed with spicy taco beef, refried beans, Spanish rice, topped with chili con carne and melted cheese

Isabella munched on whatever bits from our plates she happened to be interested in eating, mostly fries.

Notice the lack of enthusiasm in my writing? Good. It's because sadly, Carlos' n' Charlie's wasn't near as exciting as their commercial. Maybe I'm just getting old, but it seemed like it wasn't all that happening a place at 6pm. I'm guessing it is a lot more fun there without kids and late at night when the bar is full. That's just not my thing these days, so it isn't likely we'll be back to Carlos' n' Charlies anytime soon.

I guess I'll have to kick my shouting habit during their commercials. Oh well...
