Dulces at Lakeline for Lunch with Mom, Dan & Gaetano

June 19, 2010

Dulces - The Art of Mexican Cuisine is located downstairs in the Lakeline Mall here in North Austin but it feels like it belongs in it's own building in down town Austin. The food is artfully presented and of our handful of visits we've never been disappointed. This is gourmet Mexican food; not your typical Mexican food and it definitely isn't Tex-Mex (or as I like to call it, Texican).

Please note: My photography isn't the greatest to begin with and the lighting is dim in there so I didn't take the prettiest photos; they don't do the food justice.

Dulces - Pescado a la Talla (red snapper)

I shared Pescado a la Talla (Red Snapper Filet seasoned with Achiote and cooked slowly over Mesquite fire) with Dan. I really enjoyed the grilled pineapple and the rice that was in the banana leaf was quite tasty. The fish wasn't "fishy" at all, and the achiote sauce was delicious. I have no idea how they made it but it was good.

Dulces Pollo Asado

My mom had the Pollo Asado (Half of Chicken marinated and cooked slow over Mesquite Fire) which was served with a choice of corn or flour tortilla. (Mom chose corn.) She wasn't able to finish it; a half of a chicken is a lot for one person. She took it home for dinner later.

My son, Gaetano, had chicken taquitos; I think they were the same as the Flautitas de Pollo (Traditional chicken flautas served with a mild spicy sauce and sour cream) on the adult menu. He was full after one, so he took the other home and had it for dinner. Gaetano was particularly impressed by the paprika shaped moon, "Look mom, it's their logo!"

We were all too full for dessert, which I've had at Dulce's before and would love to do again. Their Dulce de Leche cake is so yummy!
