I'm in EatingWell Magazine (August 2010)!

June 26, 2010

Angela Buraglia on page 8 of EatingWell Magazine (August 2010)Back in early May, Editorial Director Lisa Gosselin interviewed me by phone about my EatingWell adventures. (See all of my EatingWell related blog posts.) If you have no clue what I'm talking about, it all began on February 2nd, 2010 when I started cooking EatingWell recipes with the plan to continue doing so over the course of 90 days. (The About page tells my whole story if you're interested.)

When I started, I had no idea that what I was doing would get any attention. I just tweeted about it to help me keep track and share with some friends, then came facebook, then both. I wanted to do a blog, but I was swamped with work. (I have another blog, but for a variety of reasons I didn't want to use that one.) As I neared the end of the 90 days, I started building EatingWithAngela so I'd have everything in a place where anyone could see it. (A lot of people asked to be my friend on facebook because I made my EatingWell album public. I choose to keep facebook for family and friends, so I didn't want to say "yes" to a bunch of friend requests from total strangers. I needed something they could read and comment on if they'd like.)

A week or so ago, I heard on twitter that the editorial Lisa wrote was posted on the EatingWell website and saw that it included me and a few other bloggers. I wasn't sure that the article would make it into the print magazine and held off blogging about it until I could see it for myself. I went to several stores, several times since the online version was posted. I couldn't find the magazine anywhere! (They still had June issues out.)

Tonight I stopped in WholeFoods to get a few snacks for the week and was happily surprised to find the July/August edition of EatingWell Magazine. I flipped through it and found the editorial (on page 8) which looked a lot like the online version. I pointed to my picture and showed my son who exclaimed, "You got in the magazine?! Coooooool!" He was so proud of me.

I took a copy of the magazine to the checkstand along with our snacks. The cashier (who I won't name just in case this would ridiculously get her in trouble), greeted me with a smile and asked how I was. With my finger holding the page open, I showed her. She pointed to the picture, then to me and was as excited as we all were. She asked what I did to get in the magazine and if I knew that I would be in it and I explained how I wasn't sure, much like I explained here. I told her that I expected one in the mail but it still hadn't come yet. She was so excited for me, she scanned it to check the price, "It's only $4.99. It's on us!" she said. I replied, "Really? I love Whole Foods! Thank you!"

This issue has several great recipes and I'm going to take Lisa's challenge and blog about the recipes that I make. You may not see me cooking much in the next few weeks. I'm getting married on July 10th! I'll be eating lots of food in Jamaica and sharing those photos here on my blog. When I get back, I'll be making at least one EatingWell recipe a week and will try to make those new recipes rather than ones I've tried before.

By the way, there's a misprint in the article. It only took 12 weeks to lose 14 pounds, not 16 weeks. (90 days is 12 weeks.) Since the interview in early May, I've lost another 8 pounds! Life is going great, and I have EatingWell to thank for helping me learn how to cook healthier and even how to identify healthy options when dining out due to learning how to cook and becoming more familiar with calorie counting.

My journey isn't over; there's still another 6 pounds to go. After that, it'll be about maintaining my weight and healthier lifestyle. Like I've said many times before (and is evident by all the different foods which via my blog you see that I eat): I'm not on a diet; I'm eating well!

Thanks Kim! I hope you're not terribly disappointed when you see what I've been eating the last couple of weeks on my honeymoon. I have a lot of catching up to do... Just took a peek at your site and I love your style!
