What Dan got me for my Birthday!

June 14, 2010

You might recall when I blogged about my birthday I wrote, "As for birthday presents, I'll be blogging about those soon. Some have to do with cooking and some to do with my weight loss. I'm going to keep you in suspense awhile since it is getting late." Well I'm going to tell you what Dan got for me...

Angela & Dan on 5/30/2010

Dan arranged for me to meet with a wardrobe consult! Tomorrow is my first meeting with Sydney. She's going to go through my closet and tell me what not to wear. Then on Wednesday she's going to go shopping with me.

I'm nervous and excited at the same time. If you know me well, you know my wardrobe is awful enough to land me spot on the TV show called "What Not to Wear". I've been a jeans and t-shirt kind of gal for most of my life. I seriously lack style.

On top of my lack-of-fashion sense, I've lost a over 40 pounds in the last year so hardly any of my clothes fit me right. Even my shoes are a problem because they rub and cause blisters. Now that I'm so close to my goal, it is time to start working on a new wardrobe. A whole new wardrobe is not going to happen over night, but this is going to be a nice start. I feel so blessed to have Dan in my life and am so thankful for his thoughtfulness.

One of the questions Sydney asked by email was, "Is there a celebrity whose style you really admire?" I didn't have an answer and have sought help via facebook and twitter. I've gotten, Julia Roberts, Selma Hayek, and Jacqueline Kennedy as responses thus far. The problem I'm having with each of those suggestions is I can only seem to find photos of them in evening attire. I really need daytime/everyday sort of looks.

I think it may be easier to figure out a character's daytime style from TV/movies than it is to gather an actress's style. So I'm asking for your help here too (please leave a comment). Which TV or Movie character has a style you think that I could pull off?

Thanks for your help! (I need all the help I can get on this one.)

Your Brother ;-)

Look at what Martha Stewart wears for day time wear.

What a wonderful and thoughtful gift! To answer your question, I wouldd say Jennifer Garner. She is not too flashy with her daytime or evening wear yet she looks lovely and put together with comfort in mind.

I don't think specifics about how the person dresses are the issue; the consultant will probably be looking at your body type/shape and coloring for specifics. A "style" is just that--more of a feeling or aura. Just looking at some Hayek pics, for instance, she's a lot more top-heavy than you (or very well padded!), and her torso proportions might be completely different. Speaking of style, another with a "look" that is similar is Catherine ...oh, shucks, can't think of her name, she's Welsh but I always think she's Spanish; married to Michael Douglas. You know who I mean...ah, Zeta-Jones.

@Matt - Thanks! That's a fun site to browse.

@Bonni - Yes, she'll definitely consider my body type (pear all the way). I love what I've seen of Salma's style. (She's definitely more top-heavy than I am.) Back when I did her makeup she'd just finished From Dusk Till Dawn. I wish I paid more attention to what she wore to the set that week. (That was ~14 years ago so it isn't likely in style anymore anyway.) Catherine and Salma definitely have similar looks about them. They're both very sexy/sultry women. They both had gorgeous wedding gowns too. Like Jacqueline Kennedy, I think all of these women have a certain star quality. They carry themselves with grace and glamour. Thanks for your input Bonnie!

I love Anne Hathaway's style. She looks like she walked out of an Ann Taylor store.
